Pitch Wars is over and I didn’t get a nibble. Quite honestly, I didn’t expect one. EDEN’s last hurrah now rests in the hands of Harper Voyager. Unitl they send me some kind of a response, EDEN still has a puncher’s chance. Cue the theme from Rocky.
There were other entrants left out in the cold too. My good friends over at Mystic Cooking were left on the side of the road as the bus rolled by and the rain poured down. I was a bit shocked. Their story seemed like a lock to get some requests. I’m sure their ever after is still to come.

Another friend of mine, Jani, was the next one in line when the concert tickets sold out. The vendor put the sign up and left her standing there. We talked about it some and she’ll be back stronger than ever. She’s got a new cornerman in me. Cue that Rocky music again. We’re going to climb those steps…LIKE A BOSS!
Jae got one full request. All her hard work paid off. A pretty good agent requested her manuscript, and 33 others too! Dang, that’s a lot of reading. I don’t know what Jae is going to do in the meantime, it may be a long wait for a response. Good luck, Jae! I’m rooting for you.

I’m glad I entered Pitch Wars. I met some really great people. The experience was worth my time. I’m glad I had realistic expectations going in. Even though I didn’t receive a request, I’m not dejected. If anything, I’m more determined than ever. I love a good challenge. When I snap those heads around with my shiny new manuscript, I’ll smile. I was there the whole time and nobody noticed just like Judd Nelson in the Breakfast Club. You know what, I’ll take that. I’m the Breakfast Club of horror writers. Boo-ya. *drops mic* *walks off*

You are too awesome for words. Which should be a problem(that whole writer thing), but who cares! It was an experience anyway.
I was just thinking about one of the best things about Twitter is getting to know you better. I enjoy our little talks. Remember, all the struggles make the success that much sweeter. I’m talking Jimmy Eat World sweet. I know what my next song of the week will be. Thanks, Jani!
I LOVE JIMMY! Got to see them live once when they came to South Africa. Ticked that off my bucket list
LOVED this part: “I’m the Breakfast Club of horror writers. Boo-ya.” I know that feeling! I felt that way being the only horror pitch in those things lol
Thanks. It’s great to know there’s someone else who understands what being a horror writer is like. It can be tough with all the monsters, maniacs, and killers.
Well, if our writing careers are like Rocky, then we may have some more punches to take before we rise to the top. I’m glad we did pitchwars, and even if we didn’t come away with requests, I still feel like we won something.
Pitch Wars taught me that sometimes the people who shout the loudest get heard, but not listened to. Does that make sense? Too many writers think landing an agent is “making it”. We all walk our own path toward publication for a reason. It’s the experience which builds character, not finding the finish line as quickly as possible. I truly believe good things are coming for the two of you. When it’s going to happen is a different story.
You did it; you’ve kept your senses; and you’ve rejoiced in the success of others. You’re a real winner.
Thank you. I’ve always believed winning isn’t everything. It’s the experience that matters most. You see winners all the time who will do anything to “win”. *cough* Lance Armstrong. *cough* That’s not me. If you can’t enjoy everything that goes into success, why do it in the first place?
One day, after you’ve had an agent and a publisher and a book published already, you’re going to get EDEN published and its going to knock everyone’s socks off.
I decided to change the title to something more horror sounding. I had a short list of possible titles and then I saw your latest blog post. The word Shadows stuck. I added it to one of the possible titles and knew it was the one. I shall email it to you so you can be the first to see it.
