Odd Thomas is now a Movie

In case you didn’t know, Dean Koontz actually gave the okay for Stephen Sommers (he made the first Mummy movie starring Brendan Frasier) to make a movie out of his Odd Thomas books. If you knew how Mr. Koontz felt about Hollywood destroying some of his other books, you would know that this is rare. I’ve known about the movie for some time, but thought that I should share the news with all of you.

Odd Thomas is the story of a short order cook who can speak with the dead (including the King of Rock-N-Roll, Elvis himself). Occasionally they need help stopping a crime. This time things are different. A mysterious man comes to town with a voracious appetite, a filing cabinet stuffed with information on the world’s worst killers, and a pack of hyena-like shades following him wherever he goes. Who the man is and what he wants, not even Odd’s deceased informants can tell him. His most ominous clue is a page ripped from a day-by-day calendar for August 15.

Today is August 14.

In case that wasn’t enough to get your mouth watering, check out some casting news.

So, who’s playing Odd Thomas? Anton Yelchin.

You may remember him from movies like, Terminator Salvation, the Star Trek remake as Chekov, and Charlie Bartlett. Great casting choice.

Who’s playing Chief Wyatt Porter (Odd’s father figure)? Wellem DaFoe!

I shouldn’t need to remind you of his awesomeness.  To say this man is a talented actor would be an understatement.

I can’t imagine the sales pitch Mr. Sommers had to have given Mr. Koontz.  It must have been epic because the movie is being made.  As of right now the movie is set for an October release, and I can’t wait.  Keep your eye out for this one, it’s going to be good!
