How’s everyone doing? Judging by what I see on television, X-mas is just around the corner. Geez, Halloween passes and stores and corporations go right into X-mas mode. Pump those brakes. Take a breath. We’ll get there. All in due time.
Paying the Ferryman has been out for nearly a month now. Things are going well. I got my copy the other day and I’ve got to say I love how it looks. My story opens up the anthology. It’s a lot of pressure knowing my story will either drive readers on or drive them away. I can handle it. I’m grateful the editors believed in me so much. If you’ve read it, please consider leaving a review. Reviews really help a book in the early stages of its release. Your support is appreciated.
What have I been up to?
The Mists of Calthar – My goal is to get Mists finished by the end of the year. I went back to square one and read through the 50,000 words I already had. I needed to wrap my head around the characters and story again. Now that my head’s back in the game, I’ve outlined the remaining chapters. There is light at the end of the tunnel. I look forward to sharing MISTS with my beta readers sometime after the holiday season. My goal is to have it in front of literary agents by February.
Covert Genesis (the book) – Fans of my short story, Covert Genesis, which appeared in SNAFU: An Anthology of Military Horror, will be pleased to know my next book will take place in that world. Yes, it will feature characters you know and love like Watkins and Chen. Yes, I will address where the alien parasites came from. Yes, there will be more carnage. It’s still early, but I can’t wait to immerse myself in that world again. There’s no official title yet. More details to come.
Between Shadows and Darkness – Let me start by saying I still, and always will, love this story, the characters, and world. The market continues to be tough for this one, but I believe BSD has a place. A few small presses have it. BSD’s pulse still beats. For those of you who have read, and continue to root for Mitsuko, keep your fingers crossed. I’d love to share her story with the rest of the world.
Enduring Darkness – See above. Whatever happens with BSD will likely happen with the sequel, which is complete at 90,000 words. All they need is the right press to believe in them. More details as they become available.
Lightbringer – On hold. The planned third volume of the Black Gate Trilogy will have to wait. Unless someone shows interest in the first two, it doesn’t make sense for me to write Lightbringer yet. I have an outline and know how the trilogy will end. Tell you what, I’ll share the first sentence for fun. Ready? Here it is! Atlanta was the first city to fall.
Not much to report. The Brodgar Ring got a polish and is under consideration for an anthology. An Unfamiliar Sky made a short list but was ultimately rejected (so close!). I went over it again and sent it to a magazine.
I hope everyone had a happy and safe Halloween. Mine was quiet. I spent the night at home with a few horror films and Ash Versus Evil Dead (which is a fun, new show). Looking forward to cooking Thanksgiving dinner for my family. But enough about me. What is everyone else up to? Shout about it in the comments. Stay true to yourself and never give up. Through struggle and sacrifice comes great reward. We’re all stronger than we believe. Keep moving forward, even if it’s only an inch at a time. I’ll see you on the other side.
